The Tale of the Victim and the Culprit:

The Victim in this story is where you have your pain. Let’s say it is your low back. The low back is many times the Victim in modern life due to lifestyle, work, posture, old injuries…

The Victim is what wakes you at night, interrupts your hours at the computer or at your Zumba Classes. A narrow view of the body would focus all the attention at the Victim. A limited treatment approach could include – antiflammatories, muscle relaxants, injections or from physical therapy – ultrasound, stretching of the Victim or even strengthening the Victim!

While these may quiet down the pain in the short term, you are destined to hear from the Victim again.

You need to pursue the Culprits! The Culprits are the Root of the problem. The Culprits may be misalignment in part of the body, poor ergonomics, lack of strength in the core (trunk muscles), etc. Many times the Culprits lie far from the Victim (your pain). For example, the root of your low back pain may be coming from your neck, your ribs, from an ankle sprain you had ten years ago or from the way you walk, move, sit or sleep.

The systematic evaluation of your body at DeMarco Physical Therapy identifies the Culprits and cares for the Victim. The mixture of hands-on physical therapy, exercise and posture re-training will correct the Culprits that are harassing your Victim. DeMarco Physical Therapy will find and alleviate the root of your problem!

Functional Manual Therapy FMT™

FMT™ is a unique and comprehensive approach to the art of healing and restoring function developed by the Institute of Physical Art (IPA). FMT consists of an integrated evaluation and treatment system that promotes optimum human performance and enhancing total body mobility, activating and strengthening the core, and analyzing and teaching efficient postural and movement strategies.

The unique aspect of FMT is the integration of hands on mobility treatment with neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and coordination training (motor control). The thorough treatments in the clinic are followed by a direct and detailed Home Program for the patient. As referenced in the section ‘My Story’ Dr. DeMarco has thoroughly studied the FMT approach and now has the opportunity to teach for the IPA in order to expand the knowledge of other physical therapists.

At DeMarco Physical Therapy you will receive all the knowledge of physical therapy, plus a high level of training in a proven approach – FMT. This combination is a recipe for improved function!
